Dr. Park Gerdine, Founder of The Shepherd’s Center Of Orange Park, died peacefully of pneumonia with his three children by his side in Ashville, NC, on June 25, 2016. He was 93 years old.
With Dr. Park’s vision and enthusiasm, his wife, Evelyn’s talents and Keith Clark’s organizational skills, SCOOP was born in April 1993 with 30 members meeting at various churches in the beginning and for more than 20+ years at Orange Park United Methodist Church. They met so many times at Dunkin Donuts to plan that the shop saved them a corner table as their “office”. SCOOP has grown to 847 registrations annually.
“Dr. Park” remained in touch and was thrilled with seeing his vision grow and prosper. As the founder of this organization, he touched thousands of lives through the program over the years. His legacy will continue to change lives in a positive manner for years to come. Dr. Park is survived by his wife, Susan H. Gerdine, of Asheville, N.C.; his children, Elaine Gerdine of Salem, Mass.; Virginia Gerdine Barnett of Austin, Texas; and Warren Gerdine of Wallingford, PA.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
